The Picture of Success?

Nice suit, trophy wife, new Lexus… and His Own Airplane, Wow!!! This has got to be the picture of success, right?

Wrong.

Last week this Fishers, Indiana man was found with his wrists slashed in a local jail in Tallahassee, Florida after faking a plane crash and his death, after defrauding several investors and insurance clients. This poor guy was suckered in by the big three: Lust of the Eye, Lust of the Flesh, and the Pride of Life. It was exhilarating for a season, but after following the world, and its behind the scenes leader, the devil. He went down the path of all who travel that road to destruction.

Some verses that come to mind are:

I Timothy 6:10 For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evil. Some people, eager for money, have wandered from the faith* and pierced themselves with many griefs.

Luke 6:19-21“Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth,* where moth and rust destroy,* and where thieves break in and steal. But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven,* where moth and rust do not destroy, and where thieves do not break in and steal.

1 Peter 5:8 Be self-controlled and alert. Your enemy the devil prowls around* like a roaring lion* looking for someone to devour.

And for the Christian

Matthew 6:33 But seek first his kingdom* and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well.

We've all still got that influence of the flesh, and an eye for the things the world values. Pray for this poor soul, and remember what the end is, if we don't play by God's rules.
